In 1997, I worked briefly in A&R at Capitol Records. One of the coolest things about the job was getting access to their incredible vaults. This was not long after Apple had put together The Beatles Anthology, so there was still access to copies of master tapes.
I managed to get my hands on this extremely rare version of “For No One” from the Revolver sessions. It does not appear on any of the Anthology releases and I haven’t seen it on any of the usual bootlegs.
What’s cool about this version, is that Paul McCartney hadn’t worked out all the lyrics yet. There’s some placeholder stuff that isn’t in the version of the song we know.
Enjoy!
